Service: Roof Repair
Location: Toronto
Challenge
The homeowner had damaged and broken shingles at the back of the house, creating vulnerable points where rain and melting snow could work beneath the roofing system. In addition, several roof details – exposed fasteners, vents, valleys, and key material transitions (shingle-to-cedar and cedar-to-soffit) – needed sealing attention to prevent small gaps from turning into active leaks or ongoing moisture intrusion.
Solution
The team from Dominion Roofing completed a series of targeted shingle repairs and detailed sealing work to restore weather-tight performance across the affected areas:
Shingle Replacement (Rear Roof Area)
- Removed and replaced damaged/broken shingles at the back of the house
- Matched the repair area carefully to maintain a clean, consistent finish
Sealing of Roof Components & Vulnerable Points (Main Roof)
- Applied roofing-grade caulking to all exposed fasteners and nails to reduce water entry risk
- Resealed around roof vents to reinforce the watertight seal at penetrations
- Caulked roof valleys to help protect high-flow drainage areas where water concentrates during heavy rain and thaw cycles
Transition Sealing (Multi-Material Details)
- Caulked shingle-to-cedar transitions to prevent moisture from tracking behind materials
- Caulked cedar-to-soffit transitions to close off gaps where wind-driven rain can enter and cause hidden rot over time
Result
The damaged shingles were replaced and the roof’s most leak-prone points were sealed and reinforced, improving overall waterproofing – especially at penetrations, valleys, and material transitions. The repairs help reduce the risk of future leaks, protect the underlying roof structure, and keep the home better protected through North York’s changing seasonal conditions.
