Challenge
An aging four-ply BUR roof system on a busy commercial plaza in Waterloo was showing signs of significant leaking and declining performance. The client needed a commercial roof replacement that could be completed quickly, without disrupting tenants or impacting daily business operations. The presence of a retrofitted solar array added complexity, requiring safe removal, storage, and reinstallation during the roofing process.
Solution
Dominion Roofing removed the old BUR system and installed a new four-ply BUR with 1.5 inches of polyiso insulation. The work was completed in just two weeks using a staged tear-off method, temporary protection, and daily clean-ups—allowing tenants to remain open throughout the project.
Our team also coordinated closely with a licensed solar contractor to de-energize, remove, and safely store all solar panels and racking. Once roofing was complete, the system was reinstalled, recommissioned, and thoroughly inspected. All penetration points and curb flashings were re-sealed and tested to ensure watertight performance.
Result
The project delivered a watertight, energy-efficient, and durable roofing system with no tenant shutdowns and full solar system restoration. The upgraded BUR system significantly improves thermal performance and longevity—backed by a Dominion Roofing warranty.
This successful commercial roof replacement showcases Dominion Roofing’s expertise in managing complex, high-traffic projects with precision, safety, and minimal disruption.
